The Massachusetts Animal Coalition (MAC) Pit Bull Spay/Neuter Task force’s goal is to decrease the numbers of pit bulls surrendered to animal shelters, rescue groups and animal control organizations in Massachusetts by helping current pit bull owners keep their dogs happy, healthy and in their homes. The task force is achieving this goal by promoting spay and neuter programs for pit bulls.
The task force recognizes that pit bulls are the most common type of dog surrendered to adoption centers in Massachusetts and found as strays. Providing spay and neuter surgeries that are affordable is key to reducing the number of homeless pit bulls in our state.
The task force has developed a webpage to provide resources for pit bull owners. Information on low-cost spay/neuter clinics, homeowners insurance and information about the many myths surrounding the breed can be found here.
MAC is taking a leading role in bringing groups throughout the state together to proactively address the issue and work to decrease the number of pit bulls abandoned by their owners each year.
